A Dreamer and Doer of Impossible Things
>The Daily Musings of Netia McCray<
This Afternoon, Mbadika reached another milestone;
We just shipped our first batch of our Solar USB Charger kits to our Beta Customers in various Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hubs throughout Africa; including ICECairo in Egypt, CreationHill in Rwanda, and WoeLab in Togo.
If you had asked me only eight months ago if I thought that we would be shipping an actual product to potential customers in Sub-Saharan Africa, I would have laughed.
Now, I’m the proud mother of an initial batch of Solar USB Charger kits going across the Atlantic Ocean to our peers throughout Africa.
[Seriously, I kissed each package before we shipped them off.]
As the Summer Session winds to a close, I simply just can’t overstate how amazing it has been to work with my teammates on getting Mbadika off the ground over the past 10 weeks.
Despite a little hiccup this morning in which a teammate wired a kit incorrectly, which caused once of the kits to heat up (while in the package, taped and ready for shipment) and melt the wiring in the assembled version of our Solar USB Charger kit we included in the shipments.
We are already a group of dark-skinned engineers.
The last thing we need is for USPS to believe we are shipping DIY (do-it-yourself) bomb kits to Sub-Saharan Africa because our package is warming up in their hands. We have enough problems to deal with.
I’m just going to click my Swiss Gear Sneaker Heels together and pray that our initial packages arrive at their destinations safely and securely.
